Mine Vision Systems (MVS) is dedicated to providing advanced workflow-integrated perception and automation systems which improve speed, safety and productivity for the mining industry. We are a spinout from Carnegie Mellon University’s National Robotics Engineering Center, and are located in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. Following the successful product launch of our FaceCapture™ Mapping System, we are in a growth mode and we are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

 

As a MVS Mechanical Engineer you will be responsible for developing new hardware designs, working with contract manufacturers, and supporting customer needs around the world.

 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use Solidworks to develop new and improved hardware designs for the production mining environment
  • Generate and maintain BOMs for new and existing products
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to manage production planning and system delivery needs to customers
  • Lead RCAs with other engineers and provide remediation recommendations
  • Work in step with our Tech Services team on supporting customer service requests
  • Coordinate with our contract manufacturers on production deliveries and build schedules
  • Conduct final quality control tests on products before they are shipped to customers
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for product testing, repairs, and performance evaluations
  • Travel up to 15% to work sites beyond the corporate office to support vendors, customers, and conduct field trials in underground environments

 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in mechanical engineering
  • 2-6 years professional experience in an engineering, product development, or manufacturing role
  • Proficient with basic Solidworks part and assembly modeling
  • Proficient with basic hand tools and electromechanical assemblies
  • Solid troubleshooting and debugging skills for mechanical and electrical issues
  • Experience with structured problem solving methodologies
  • Experience with taking a digital design and getting it manufactured
  • Experience with reading an electrical schematic and using a voltmeter
  • Experience with tolerance stackups and using GD&T annotations
  • Must live within the greater Pittsburgh area and have regular access to a vehicle
  • Able to clearly and effectively communicate thoughts and ideas to a wide range of engineers and non-engineers

 

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience working with contract manufacturers on the volume production of hardgoods such as electronics, machined components, soft goods, and/or molded parts
  • Experience with advanced Solidworks features such as BOMs, surface modeling, or PDM
  • Demonstrated proficiency with taking digital designs and manufacturing them (either with third parties or self)
  • Experience with using a PLM or an inventory management system
  • Proficient with advanced electronic diagnostic tools like an oscilloscope or logic analyzer
  • Familiar with Linux OS and using a terminal for basic debugging of connected devices
  • Experience with advanced electromechanical systems, like robots
  • Portfolio of past work and projects (both professional and personal are highly encouraged)
