The Forward Deployed Operations Engineer (FDOE) is responsible for making our Deployments hum. This pivotal role serves as the operational lead for our Deployments, and is the key interface between Gecko and our customers. As an FDOE, you are responsible for ensuring the successful execution of on-site inspections of critical infrastructure, manufacturing facilities, and other assets including power plants, oil and gas refineries, and military assets. Typical activities include work scoping and project management, driving meetings, resolving on site issues, and managing inter and intra-team communications.
Through our accelerated development program, you will develop a deep understanding of our robotics and software offerings, the industries we support, and field execution requirements and practices. In addition to coordinating and supporting fieldwork, the FDOE will also support continuous improvement of internal operations including procedure development, training, field support, and more.
As a Forward Deployed Operations Engineer, you will own field operations and execution for customer Deployments. Responsibilities include:
Manage day-to-day customer relationships, developing confidence in our capabilities, deep trust, and connective tissue between Gecko and our customers
Support development and iteration of the Scope of Work
Track and communicate requirements for working on-site (safety, training, etc)
Ensure customer assets are accessible, prepared to specifications, and confirm availability of all necessary inputs (power, water, etc)
Track and communicate day-to-day tasking and priorities, lead meetings and produce written updates as required to keep stakeholders in sync
Provide direct support for on-site inspections
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and time management skills
Adaptable, with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills from the field to the C-suite
Possess the ability to build trust and develop interpersonal relationships
Mission-oriented, seeking meaningful work for the betterment of our world
Required Skills / Experience
Bachelor's Degree in a technical field OR specialized technical training (e.g., military training, scientific or industrial equipment and processes)
Work Environment:
This job operates in multiple environments, including a machine shop, and field work performed in OSHA-confined spaces, at heights, and in multiple weather conditions including heat, rain, and cold.
Work Requirements:
Logistical
Ability to travel (domestic & internationally) 75% of the time and up to 90% during peak times(inspection typically runs 5 to 7 days)
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid TWIC card
Physical
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively
Ability to carry 50 pounds, for a distance up to 100 feet
Ability to climb stairs while carrying up to 50 pounds
Ability to push and/or pull up to 50 pounds consistently, for periods up to 12 hours per day
Ability to stand for up to 12 hours per day
Ability to bend, stoop, and/or crawl repetitively
Ability to wear a respirator
