As a CNC Machining New Product Introduction (NPI) Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to spearhead the integration of new products or components into the CNC machining production environment.

This role requires effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, supply chain management, and customers.

Your objective is to ensure a seamless transition of products from the design phase to production, fostering successful outcomes.

New Product Introduction

    • Lead the NPI process for CNC machining projects, ensuring a smooth transition from prototype to production.
    • Collaborate with manufacturing engineering and customer engineers to review part designs for manufacturability using CNC machining processes.
    • Review and ensure manufacturing and validation processes developed by manufacturing and quality control engineers are capable and completed on time to execute the project.  Process examples include CNC programs, fixture designs, quality control inspection plans, manufacturing processes, and work instructions.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments to identify potential manufacturing challenges and develop mitigation plans.

Process Optimization

    • Continuously optimize CNC machining processes to improve productivity, reduce cycle times, and minimize costs while maintaining product quality.
    • Utilize statistical analysis and process control techniques to monitor and improve machining performance.
    • Identify opportunities for automation and implement innovative solutions to enhance manufacturing efficiency.

Quality Assurance

    • Collaborate with quality assurance teams to develop inspection plans and ensure that CNC machined parts meet quality standards and customer specifications.
    • Investigate and resolve quality issues related to CNC machining processes, implementing corrective and preventive actions as necessary.
    • Implement and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions, to ensure consistency and traceability in manufacturing processes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain management, to address technical challenges and drive project success.
    • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to coordinate activities and ensure alignment throughout the NPI process.
    • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel to ensure smooth execution of CNC machining processes.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
    • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Experience in a manufacturing environment ideally including CNC milling and turning.
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex technical issues.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
    • Familiarity with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100) and quality tools such as statistical process control (SPC) and root cause analysis.
    • Preferred:
    • 3+ years experience in CNC machining manufacturing environment
    • GD&T proficiency per ASME Y14.5 standard
