Job Summary:

As a Product Integration Engineer at Hellbender, you will work closely with all members of our design team to ensure that hardware and software components will integrate seamlessly into cohesive perception systems. You will contribute to improving the overall technical capabilities of your team through mentorship and collaboration, leading the systems design of products and integration of components, and sharing insights across the organization. For this role, you must possess in-depth knowledge of a relevant sensor modality and demonstrate the ability to anticipate and address potential integration issues. This is a hands-on position that requires direct involvement in the design, prototyping, implementation, and verification and testing processes of product development. These skills may be applied to projects with as few as 2 prototypes to as many as 10,000+ production units.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Test and evaluate software and hardware components
  • Help define and encourage systems thinking across all product teams; act as glue
  • Collaborate with all engineering disciplines to ensure system performance
  • Create systems artifacts: performance requirements and constraints, trade studies, technical guidance documents, project documentation, etc
  • Support Project Managers to define and develop the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of the product development cycle
  • Utilize CAD and visualization tools to create detailed designs and schematics for components, assemblies, and fixtures

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:

This position requires in-depth experience in the following areas: hardware and software integration, system architecture, product design and development, requirements analysis, data flow design/analysis, verification/ testing, and system documentation.

Strongly Recommended:

  • Ability to be a strong “T”-- that is, to have both breadth across several topics as well as depth in complementary roles
  • 3+ years of professional experience in system integration, with a proven track record in embedded robotics, hardware and software design, sensor technologies, and troubleshooting complex systems
  • Ability to clearly present complex ideas to diverse audiences, including customers, subject matter experts, and high-level decision makers
  • Experience with advanced 2D/3D machine vision or sensor applications
  • Experience working on both product integration and engineering teams in a startup environment is highly preferred
  • 3+ years of professional experience applying systems engineering principles throughout all phases of product development life cycles
  • Eagerness to support colleagues across the company, regardless of the team, technology, or project
  • Curiosity and strong ability to learn new concepts on the fly
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, as well as programming languages (C++, Python, ROS) and simulation tools
  • Strong understanding of mechanical principles, dynamics, and materials science

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience with firmware programming for closed-loop systems
  • Experience with optics and sensor calibration for robotic applications
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for 3D modeling and drafting
  • Professional experience with data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence algorithms

Compensation:

This will be a salaried, exempt position. Compensation to be discussed relative to experience and abilities. This position will be open to the company yearly bonus and retirement savings programs.
