Job Summary: The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in the financial health and success of the organization. This position involves maintaining financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. We use Unanet as our ERP system and in this role, you will be required to become an expert using and administering that system. The Senior Accountant will work closely with other members of the finance and project management team to support accurate and timely reporting.

Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Record Keeping:
    1. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
    2. Record financial transactions in the general ledger.
    3. Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts.
  2. Financial Reporting:
    1. Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
    2. Generate various financial reports to support decision-making processes.
    3. Provide analysis of financial data to identify trends and discrepancies.
  3. Accounts Payable and Receivable:
    1. Process accounts payable invoices and ensure timely payments.
    2. Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue payments.
    3. Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  4. Budgeting and Forecasting:
    1. Assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
    2. Monitor budget vs. actual performance and provide variance analysis.
    3. Contribute to the forecasting process based on financial trends.
  5. Compliance and Auditing:
    1. Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
    2. Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits.
    3. Address audit findings and implement corrective actions.
  6. Financial Analysis:
    1. Conduct financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
    2. Provide insights into cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
    3. Collaborate with other departments to analyze financial implications of projects.
  7. Tax Compliance:
    1. Assist in the preparation of tax returns and compliance documentation.
    2. Stay current with tax regulations and ensure adherence to tax laws.
  8. Understanding DCAA Regulations
    1. Familiarize yourself with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS). These regulations provide guidance on government contracting and are crucial for DCAA compliance.
    2. Understand contract pricing principles, especially when it comes to government contracts. Accurate pricing is crucial, and any changes should be documented and communicated appropriately.
  9. Cost Accounting Standards (CAS):
    1. Be familiar with Cost Accounting Standards, as they play a significant role in DCAA audits. Ensure that the company's accounting practices comply with these standards.
  10. DCAA Audits:
    1. Prepare for DCAA audits by conducting internal audits and reviews. This helps identify and address potential issues before an official DCAA audit occurs.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  2. Professional certification (CPA, ACCA, or equivalent) is a plus.
  3. Proven experience in accounting or related field.
  4. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
  5. Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Excel.
  6. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  7. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  8. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
