Position Overview:
The Inspection Manager plays a critical role in maintaining the quality standards and efficiency of our CNC machine shop operations and also helps Formlogic scale and innovate our inspection processes toward our vision of developing the new supply chain through software, automation, and robotics.  The role requires a strong technical understanding of mechanical inspection processes, along with exceptional people management skills to lead and develop a team of quality control inspectors. 

Responsibilities

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the inspection department, including scheduling inspections, allocating resources, and ensuring the timely completion of inspection tasks.  
    • Lead and mentor a team of inspection technicians, providing guidance, training, and support to enhance their skills and performance. 
    • Foster a culture of quality consciousness and accountability among team members, promoting a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
    • Standardize, document and continually improve inspection department processes and ensure employees are trained and executing successfully.  
    • Collaborate with the production, engineering, and quality assurance teams to address quality-related issues, implement corrective actions, and drive process improvements. 
    • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in quality control and CNC machining processes, and integrate new methodologies and technologies as appropriate.
    • Utilize quality control tools and techniques, such as statistical process control (SPC), Six Sigma, and root cause analysis, to identify trends, analyze data, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
    • Enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all employees within the inspection department.
    • Analyze inspection data and generate comprehensive reports detailing measurement results, deviations, and areas for improvement. Provide feedback to the production team to enhance manufacturing processes and product quality
    • Ensure that CMM machines and inspection equipment are properly maintained, calibrated, and in good working condition to guarantee accurate measurement results

Qualifications:

    • Extensive experience (5+ years) in precision inspection processes of mechanical parts, ideally CNC machined parts.  
    • Excellent leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a team of inspectors.
    • Strong understanding of ANSI Y14.5 geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles & GRR/MSA.
    • Proficiency in operating CMM machines using PC-DMIS software.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision in inspection and documentation.
    • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills, with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced tech startup environment and prioritize tasks effectively.

Preferred

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field.
    • At least 2 years in a supervisory role.
    • Knowledge of quality management systems (ISO 9001, AS9100, etc.)
